3rd Annual 30 Day Photo Challenge ~ Day 6 ~ Hands

I'm breaking my own rules for a second here, using a picture that is a few months old. I took and shared this picture on April 3 of this year.

April 3 was deemed the National Day of Hope for those fighting diabetes.

Diabetes is a disease that has affected too many people in my family in too many forms.


My son, the little hand in the picture here, is in a pre-diabetic state. He is four. He's in what is referred to as a limbo period, showing signs that he may develop Type 1 Diabetes.

In October of last year, I took him to the doctor when he was sick. She checked his urine, looking for a UTI. No bacteria, but his blood sugar was 286. Since then, this kid has been poked and prodded, sometimes more than once a day, all in the name of trying to figure out what is going on inside his tiny body. He has stress induced hyperglycemia, reactive hypoglycemia and occasional unexpected hypoglycemia. All of which can be predictors of Type 1, all of which can be transient things he may outgrow.

Only time will tell.

For now, we hope.
