The National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Dan Nwanyanwu has called on the Federal Government not to suspend the dialogue and amnesty programme extended to the Boko Haram sect.
Mr Nwanyanwu, who said this while responding to questions on the recent emergency rule declared on Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states by President Goodluck Jonathan to contain the insurgency in the north, said the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North should be allowed to continue its work.
President Jonathan had last month inaugurated the Committee and charged it with the responsibility of identifying and constructively engaging key leaders of Boko Haram, and developing a workable framework for amnesty and disarmament of the members of the group.
Mr Nwanyanwu said President Jonathan has been patient with the militant groups to see if discussion, coercion and other peaceful means can solve the problems of insurgency in the North.
“If the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan has 10 percent or 20 percent of Obasanjo in him, what he did yesterday, he probably would have done it more than two years ago.
